Joe Willis: Building a Path at PCI

PCI PATHWAYS
The journeys building our culture

Joe Willis | Project Manager | PCI Indianapolis

Joe Willis’s construction career journey began 4 years ago when he started as a Project Engineer. He quickly became an important part of many projects and has had the opportunity to grow alongside some great teammates. We asked him for more details on his experience at PCI.

How long have you been in construction?

I have been with PCI for four years, but I started my career outside of construction five years before that.

What positions have you held at PCI?

PE, Senior PE, and PM

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

It has given me the opportunity to pass along the knowledge and experience I gained earlier in my career to those who are now in positions I once held. Watching team members grow in confidence and skill—knowing you had a small part in that—is incredibly rewarding.

What’s your biggest challenge(s)?

When I was new to the industry, learning project management fundamentals, business processes, and general technical information presented challenges. Now as a PM with experience and more comfort in the aforementioned areas, the challenges have shifted more to helping guide and mentor others while still maintaining quality and completion of your own workload.

What do you value at work?

The best part of my job is interacting with my coworkers, both in the office and in the field. I think PCI does a great job of bringing on like-minded people, across the organization, at all levels. Everyone works hard and shares similar values; everyone supports one another and takes pride in what we do. This makes collaboration easy and enjoyable.

What advice would you give to those interested in working for PCI?

When you work at PCI, you’re not just working for a company, you’re joining a world-class organization that genuinely prioritizes its people. Employee Success and Well-Being is a core value that is prominent in the decisions made across the company. Furthermore, we’re constantly growing, so there are tons of real opportunities for internal advancement.
