Performance Contracting helped Turner Construction recreate the iconic football stadium at the University of Kansas, installing 418,000 square feet of interior drywall, 140,000 square feet of exterior sheeting, and nearly 10,000 linear feet of interior framing.
Built on the site of the original stadium erected in 1922, the reinvented venue offers improved sight lines and seating for fans, upgraded accessibility and added premium seating options, including club and premier levels with exclusive VIP suites. The rebuild also included a 20,000-square-feet addition to the attached Anderson Family Football Complex on the stadium’s south end and an integrated conference center on the opposite side of the stadium, making the venue a multiuse site all year long.

PCI’s total scope included all exterior walls, interior walls on the lower level—including the conference center rooms and stadium concourses—and upper levels 4 & 5, which required premium finishes in the premier suite and lounge areas. Working on upper floors and in many hard-to-reach areas meant safety was a main priority, so crews used PCI’s ‘ladders last’ approach, ensured the usage of proper PPE for all workers and utilized shaft wall configurations on stairwells and elevator shafts to limit fastening in hazardous areas.
“Our crew persevered despite many extremes, from building the exterior shell through the harsh winter months to enduring the weekly toll of total hours worked,” explained Matt Murphy, Senior Project Manager with PCI Kansas City. “But, in the end, it’s because of all their hard work that this project was successful.”
PCI crews clocked more than 60,000 work hours during the project, helping to make sure the stadium was completed on time. “The Booth” officially opened on August 23, 2025, for the first football game of the season after more than 1.6 million work hours had gone into the project.
