Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB)

US Navy | San Diego, CA | August 2026

The Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB) vessels now serve the Navy as highly versatile assets—often described as “Swiss Army knives”—supporting a wide range of missions for both Navy and civilian crews, with all variants insulated by PCI Marine at General Dynamics NASSCO.

ESB class vessels function as mobile sea bases, enabling operations such as special forces support, airborne mine countermeasures, and humanitarian assistance. A defining feature of the ship is its expansive flight deck, capable of supporting up to four aircraft, complemented by an onboard hangar.

The PCI Marine team has been successful in maintaining flexibility and precision through several major design evolutions, each driven by the ever-changing needs of the Naval fleet. In partnership with NASSCO, PCI helped with the insulation needs on seven vessels and is on track to deliver the eighth and final vessel in August 2026.
