When owner, AEG, and general contractor, PCL Construction, began the renovation project at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, their main goal was to improve the visitor experience by upgrading venue aesthetics with quality designs and unique materials. To achieve this, they enlisted the help of the PCI team, who played a major role in the four-phase renovation.
Much of the work PCI completed was during the basketball off-season. While the arena was not hosting games during much of the project, it was still open for various events, making safety and efficiency even more essential. Detailed planning and constant communication were required to ensure safety and limit disruption for event attendees and other trades working on various scopes during construction hours.

Framing and Drywall, Acoustical Ceilings, Specialty Walls & Ceilings
PCI completed metal stud and drywall work throughout the arena’s many spaces and helped install a variety of specialty fixtures on ceilings and walls throughout, from ceiling baffles in the dining hall to distinctive blade light fixtures in the Chairman’s Corridor. The PCI crew helped customize the blade lights to create a striking pattern of light and shadows in the hallway, installed to meet PCI’s high-quality wall and ceiling standards.
PCI also completed other scopes during the arena project that may be less noticeable but still vital for the visitor experience, like installing acoustic sheeting behind the venue’s giant LED screens, helping improve sound and limit echoing in the arena.
Crypto.com Arena is home to the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Kings, and Los Angeles Sparks and welcomes approximately four million guests each year to games and other major events, such as Disney on Ice, Monster Jam and the Grammy Awards. According to PCL Construction, the project achieved a zero lost-time incident rate across more than 580,000 worker hours throughout all project phases, helping it earn the ENR West Excellence in Safety Award.
