Before construction began on the City of Cedar Park’s new landmark library, general contractor JE Dunn reached out to the team at PCI Austin to help with estimating and budgeting for the interior systems in the architect’s design. The PCI team helped work through design discrepancies and provided recommendations to help the owner and design team stay within the budget.
As the construction phase began, PCI worked closely with the material manufacturers and participated in dry-in and sequencing discussions to coordinate logistics and installation of the project’s high-end finishes, especially the wood products sensitive to environmental conditions.

Installation of the ceiling presented a handful of challenges. The concealed-edge acoustical ceiling tile (ACT) system required a high level of craftsmanship due to its tight tolerances and challenging installation requirements. Additional coordination and skilled craftsmanship were necessary on the sloped ceiling to ensure proper alignment with the MEPF systems above, while also tying it into lights, speakers, fire sprinklers, and diffusers without disrupting the aesthetic affect the design team desired.
From the initial budgeting phase through project completion, PCI maintained a hands-on approach from our estimating and project management staff, allowing potential conflicts to be identified and resolved early. This ultimately contributed to the successful execution of the project’s high-end architectural finishes while maintaining quality, schedule, and constructability. By project end, the PCI crew contributed over 20,000 work hours to help complete the library.
The two-story, 47,000 SF Cedar Park Public Library, designed by Lake Flato Architects, offers indoor and outdoor spaces for children and adults, with features that include a maker space, custom-made playground equipment, tech-ready classrooms and, of course, a large collection of books and media for all ages. The library’s design has been recognized for a variety of local and national awards (listed below) and is on track for LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
